Unmotivated behaviour: looking around and moving even without seeing food or danger
This section explores the hypothesis that humans and animals explore the
environment without responding to motivating stimuli such as perceiving
food, danger, or a potential mate.
- I see perception as part of an action. The head needs to be positioned
appropriately, and the eyes may need to be turned and focused.
- I hypothesize that all vertebrates engage in exploratory or
experimental action. Rather than just waiting passively for the relevant
perceptions to appear, I think that there is activity that appears to be
spontaneous and almost random.
- I shall explore this concept with a simple demo / example
- We shall explore how an animal might find food in a cage.
- We shall lay out this scenario in simple diagrams, showing movement
and the path
- Like the chase scenario, we are assuming input from perception,
that helps with the direction of movement.
At the moment we are just modelling the information content and some of the
processing required for action.
